Nature-Based Therapy Groups - an Overview of Development and Implementation


This workshop will provide an overview of the development and implementation of both adult and paediatric nature based groups including our Mindfulness in Nature Group for Adults with ADHD and our Social/Emotional Nature OT Group for kids. You will be immersed in the evidence to support the benefit of taking your groups into nature; how to leverage OT students in development and piloting; navigating group dynamics and risk in the outdoors; and the power of a robust volunteer program.

Meet Your Host

Alanna Davis, Occupational Therapist

With over 15 years experience working as an OT in acute care, rehabilitation and leadership, Alanna launched Davis Occupational Therapy in 2019 offering Vocational Rehabilitation services. The Larchwood OT in Nature program was later developed in 2020 and has evolved considerably as a result of the pandemic. Taking the clinic outdoors and offering OT in a natural setting boasts a number of added health benefits. This journey began with pediatrics and is now moving into the development of adult programs that also leverage nature and it's well documented benefits. Larchwood Nature OT offers group programs and private services in Toronto and Markdale, Ontario.
